We are fine

A lot of people have been asking and calling to find out how things are going out here. We are fine. Our house is fine. We are at the very top of the road up out of the Cedar bottom. There is no way our house can get wet. However, we have not been able to leave. There is no road out that isn't under water. We knew this was a possibility on Thursday last week so we stocked up on groceries, dog food and toilet paper :) Our neighbors have lost just about everything. Their houses are under water--literally. But, everyone has a dry place to stay. Some are staying with friends, relatives, etc. and Louie and Tara are staying in their parents RV. Our house has been the place for some meals, laundry, internet access, play place/swimming for the kids, etc. We are happy to be able to provide this and to share our home and amenities with the folks who are desparate.

Up until today at 4pm there was no access in or out of this area. We were pretty much stranded on our little island, I guess you could say. Now that interstate 80 has opened back up we can get out. It will be a 45 mile trip for me to get to work tomorrow. With ball games tomorrow night, I think we will be staying in town until Friday and then head back home for the weekend.

Greg made it back from Michigan this afternoon. They opened the interstate just shortly after he made it to Muscatine so he was able to come home. We were so glad he is home. It's been a long, stressful, emotional few days for a lot of the folks in our neighborhood. We are doing what we can to help, but until this water goes down, there is not a lot that can be done.
