Better?

Since the week before school started there has been a new rule in effect at our house. NO TV AT ALL on school nights. The only time the kids are allowed to have the TV on is Friday nights, Saturday afternoon/evening and a little bit after church on Sunday. Early Sunday evening the TV is off again until the following Friday night. We have pulled it off without a hitch. No one complains, no one has argued about it and they don't even ask to have it on. I love it. No more competing with the TV. I was sick and tired of hearing, "just wait till this show is over" or "just a minute, wait till commercial", etc. It has worked out just perfectly. Now when they are allowed to watch it on the weekends a lot of times they opt not to. Amazing that in a few short weeks their interest in TV is almost completely gone. However, they are on the computer every night. I guess that is better(?) They do fight over it at times, but for the most part they take turns doing their computer activities. Maybe they have just replaced one thing with another, but what they are learning on the computer just seems more educational. Who knows maybe in another few weeks I will start having to limit computer time too! Then what? I'm sure they'll figure out something to keep entertained. They always do. Posted by Picasa

More of Creighton Riding

Creighton Four-Wheelin'

Today was not the best day for taking video shots. It is windy, cold and rainy. (sorry for the video--it may make you dizzy!) He didn't care about the weather. I think that makes it all the more fun for him. Everything is more fun when you get muddy!

Creighton Rides Again!

Creighton has not wanted to ride the big four-wheeler for awhile. He got really used to riding the 90 and this 110 feels really big and hard to handle for him. About a month ago he ran into the fence (only going about 2 mph)and he decided that he should only ride with one of us. Finally today he took off on it again. Back to his old self--going as fast as it will go and he handled it amazingly well too. Now hopefully, we can continue to share this one nicely so we don't have to buy another one. As far as I am concerned we do not need any more animals or motorized toys around here! I am usually far outnumbered... Posted by Picasa

Nobody's Perfect

Colby had some hard spelling words this week. We worked on them every night. Her test was today so last night we stayed up 20 minutes late to be sure that she had them down. This morning on the way to the bus I made her spell them again. Just a little review before her test today. She got mad because she was sick of spelling these words to me. I told her we had to keep working on them until she had all of them down pat and could spell them all without hesitation. She replied, "I don't have to know them all, mom. It doesn't matter if I miss some because nobody's perfect". She is right. I didn't have a lot to say after that. I guess in the grand scheme of things, missing a couple of spelling words in second grade probably isn't going to lead to complete disaster. Thanks for the lesson Colby. As much as Colby has learned from us, she has taught us more about life than I ever imagined... Posted by Picasa

New Toy, New Game

Greg bought Creighton this remote control truck the other day. It climbs hills and goes over the top of stuff. Now Creighton's favorite game is to chase the cats and run them over with his truck. It's actually very funny. I guess I should have got a video of it. I'm sure the animal rights activists would be quite disturbed :) Posted by Picasa

Remembering....

Key Largo, Florida - March 2006

As cool weather sets in I begin to think "where can we go this winter for a warm getaway?". Last winter it was Key Largo (with the Bourassa's). This is a (LONG!)picture show of our time there. I had created this a few weeks ago and really had no reason to share because it has nothing to do with what's going on today, but now I am feeling "winter vacation fever" again!

This was Colby's first flight, first "real" vacation and first time to see the ocean. Her and I swam with the dolphins and parasailed together too. It was a most memorable trip.

We are forever indebted to Don and Rena for all of the love, care, and kind hospitality they have shown to our family over the years. Thank you, thank you, thank you.....Remembering our times together with a smile today!

My Little Monkey

This is what Creighton gets to do while Colby is at soccer practice. He loves to climb and swing and jump and run and climb some more. Wish I had just a piece of his energy... Posted by Picasa

Creighton Goes To Soccer

Creighton has been waiting a long time to be able to participate in some sort of organized sport. He was tired of hanging around at Colby's practices and games when what he really wanted to be doing was participating! Now he can....

Camo Man

Creighton loves his new camoflague pajamas (and he discoved Nick Jr.com too). He has been waiting a long time to wear these PJs. He would put them on when it was 80 degrees upstairs and want to wear them to bed. Finally, chilly enough last night to wear the camo PJs! Posted by Picasa

Creighton Gets To Play Too...

Creighton joined these big boys at a goal near the field we were on. He had fun and seemed to be in awe at their talent:) It is hard to remember he is only 3. He was a little upset one day last week when we were taking Colby to practice and through clenched jaws he said "when do I get to play soccer?". So I called the Y and they are letting him start in the 4 year old class on Monday. Every day he has asked, "is it Monday yet?" And now that we have two kids going two directions for different practices in different locations I have already had to enlist my mom to help chauffuer.

This is such a great season of life. I love it. Posted by Picasa
